My Holiday Recount

During  the holidays I went to an amazing camp with my brother that was in Henderson Valley .

When my brother and I arrived at the camp we were put into the same room with ten other people and I started unpacking my stuff and made my bed. After everyone had arrived at the campsite we were all called to the dining room where camp dad told us what actives we were doing and that the theme of the camp was fear factor.

Next we all broke up into our activity groups and and we went to rock climbing. It was really exciting for me because I have never been rock climbing before and I was a bit scared because I don't like high places. When I was climbing it was great but it was a little bit difficult and I set a goal that I would touch the roof and I did get to the top.

After that we went to have lunch in the dining room and it was pizza which was brilliant. Soon after that it was free time and we got to do whatever we wanted to do and I went to have a sleep. About two hours later I woke up and everyone was going to the hall so I went as well. When I entered the hall I found my brother and all of the camp started playing a game called rag tag where everyone had a rag and they had to get the other peoples' rag and we played that for about an hour.

Later on the bell rang for dinner and everyone rushed up to the dining room and we were seated in our rooms. We were then called up to get our food and we went back to our seats to eat. The food was stupendous because it was my favourite food lasagne. After that we went to have room chill time where I had a rest and read my book.

Afterwards we brushed our teeth and got ready for bed and went to lie down on my bed. We were allowed to talk for a while so I talked to my new friends but they were all too tired to talk. Then I read my book again and then I fell asleep. When I woke up everyone was already up and got dressed and I got dressed too. Later on when everyone was ready we went to breakfast and started the days activities and my first one was going to the water hole.

Soon after we were asked to go and get changed into our swimming gear and go down to the water hole. When everyone was at the water hole we had to put life jackets on and wait for the leaders to tell us to go into the water. Next we were told that we could go into the water and I was the first one to jump into the water. As soon as I touched the water I screamed because the water was freezing cold and I jumped back out. Everyone else was too scared to go into the water but then the leaders picked people up and through them into the water. I jumped in the water again but that time I stayed in the water and it started to get warm and I swam to the other side and went up the slide. When I went down the slide I smashed into the water and water went up my nose and in my mouth but it didn't stop me from going back up and doing it again.

Following that was the start of Fear Factor which the whole camp went down onto the field. Everyone had a gross task to do and my one was about food. The first task was my one about food, We had a bucket full of scrapes and there were five marbles in it. The task was we had to get all of the marbles out with a blindfold on and the first person to get them all was the winner. When we started I picked up the bucket and tipped all the scrapes out and began to feel around for the marbles and it was gross. Then I found one, then two and then all the rest of the marbles in the same place and I got up and took my blindfold off and saw that I was first and I jumped for joy because I had got 1000 points for my group.

Finally we had the prize giving and my group won. I was amazed and I couldn't believe that we had won. Our group was called up to the stage and we got a bag of treats and we were the first to go. As we left we got a packed lunch and I said bye to all my new friend and that made me feel sad. Then I met my brother and we were picked up by my foster family.

Overall I loved camp and I had an amazing time and I hope I get to go again.

The Lost King

Peter King is an weird and unsociable teenager with many odd hobbies. He was forced to go on a school wilderness camp in the Wanoom Peninsula with a 14km walk to the camp site at Whalers Cove.As soon as they get to the camp site Peter is put in a group with Emily, a girl he has never talked to, Bethany the girlie girl in the camp and Sully the school bully. The first task they had to do was a navigation exercise in a dense forest. They were given a sheet of instructions, a map, a GPS and a compass. They were told that they had to find four markers in the forest. As soon as they start the  exercise Sully takes charge of the group and takes the lead. They start taking short cuts and as soon as they know it they are lost. Now all they have is a map, a compass, a dying GPS, a useless sheet of instructions and each other.

My favourite character is Peter King because at the beginning of the story he wasn’t liked and didn’t have many friends. He developed and became more manly and was starting to have friends near the end of the story. At the end of the story he had become friends with all of his team mates and had become a responsible and brave person.

I like this book because it has lots of adventure and it has a thrilling plot to it.I also I like it because  of the way  main characters develop.

One thing I don’t like about the story is that it is predictable because  I can predict what's going to happen next.

I would recommend this book because it has an awesome plot and is thrilling. I think the appropriate age group is 11yrs and up and I have learnt that teamwork is easier than doing it alone.

Dear Speaker of the House

Kia ora. My name is Joseph and I am a year 8 student at Tamaki Intermediate School.Thank you for welcoming us into the Beehive and talking to us about parliament.

We are grateful to you for sharing your time  to talk to us about parliament and your job. Your speech was inspiring and you have taught me lots about what happens in parliament and what you do in parliament. I have learnt about the different roles the Ministers play and what they have to do. You explained to us how issues are debated and laws are made.

You motivated me to want to have a job in parliament and I also  appreciate  how you were so happy to talk to us and how you gave us an opportunity to ask you questions.

It was an amazing experience and I would love to meet you again.

Yours sincerely
Joseph

“Caught Being Good Dad”

Dear Mrs Baker

Hi my name is Joseph, I'm 12 years old and I am in Room 8.

I think my dad should get the “Caught Being Good Dad”  award  because he has been my mum and my dad  for many years.  My dad's name is Mike Peters and he is 45 years old.He is unemployed and he gets paid to look after my brother and I.He is a brilliant cook and we always have food on the table. He has looked after us when we were sick and helps us with everything we do.

He is a slim, medium built man and is a loving father. He has black hair but has a lot of grey.He has brown eyes and has a dented nose because it has been broken before. My dad has a tough job because he has to do all of the jobs a mother does. He used to read us stories every night and put us to bed with one of his caring songs and we loved it.He devoted his life to us and  we are are so grateful for all he has done. He is a generous man and does all of the house work.
Dad  trained my rugby team when I was 7yrs old  and did a great job.He has given me life skills as I grew older like  treat women right and to look after my little brother. He was there on my first day of school and helped me to start a good year at school. We did training in the morning that my dad set up,we had all the fitness gear and it was fun.He wanted to be a better dad than his dad who had told him everything he touches turns to poo and he achieved his goal.He has worked tirelessly all my life to give me a better future and I am grateful for my dad.

Please consider him because he deserves it.He has been an  astonishing father all my life and I would like to give him something back.
